Syndicate Your Content To Increase Your Blog Traffic

Everyone knows that popular television shows that make it to 100 episodes often strike lucrative syndication deals with television deals. These deals allow television stations to re-air old television episodes for money. Some syndication deals are so lucrative that they generate hundreds of millions of dollars for a few seasons of episodes. Shows like Family Guy were resurrected from the scrap heap because the show gained a new audience in syndication. Well, you can do the same thing with your blog.

You can syndicate your content to increase your blog traffic. The advantage of syndication is that your blogging posts will have more eyeballs reading them. If readers like what they see then they will likely visit your website for more information. Syndicating your content can lead to being featured in major newspapers and websites which increases exposure for your brand. It’s a great way to make money using the Internet.

So, where should you look to syndicate your content?

Put your site on BlogBurst.

Blogburst is a RSS based syndication network that puts blogging content before millions of readers. The company was recently purchased by Demand Studios. A few facts that you should know before you start syndicating with Blogburst.

  • You need a RSS Feed. (If you don’t know what that is, read this).
  • You will not get paid by Blogburst.
  • You have to fill out a blogging application and be approved to join.
  • You only need to post once a week to your blog.
  • You will get a byline and links back to your blog.

My Experience

I signed up with Blogburst back in 2008 and never really thought about it after that. It’s tough to quantify whether I received any traffic from this deal in my blog’s early days. I did notice in 2009 that some of my posts were being run in national newspapers. Now how much traffic is attributable to this I couldn’t tell you.

In 2010, I was contacted by a few large publishers that had read my content on Blogburst. I was able to see the traffic sent to my site through these publishers via Google Analytics. You won’t make any money with Blogburst but it will hep to increase the traffic to your blog.

The Syndication Network that pays is Newstex

Newstex is a content syndication network for bloggers, video producers, Twitters, and all online content makers. The great thing about Newstex is that you get paid for blogging.

I received an email about signing up with Newstex this past summer and the results have been really good. I started receiving monthly royalty checks in September and the amount continues to increase every month. There is a 3 month lag on payments so my first payment for June was received in September. It’s always nice to check my email and see that I have made some money off of my blog posts.

It’s pretty simple to join Newstex.

  • You just fill out the online application to license your online content.
  • You will receive an email in a few days about your application status.
  • You can syndicate your Twitter and video account as well upon approval.
  • You should start receiving royalty checks 3 months after you join.

Newstex has had a positive affect on my traffic numbers. Many prominent sites have used my blog posts which have only helped to increase my blog’s traffic and my royalty amounts. Hopefully this will continue to be a beneficial relationship for years to come.

So, what do you think? Have you ever syndicated your content?
